Abdominal surgery and diseases such as endometriosis cause persistent abdominal adhesions leading to pelvic pain, infertility and in severe cases, bowel obstruction. Current treatments are ineffective and the aetiology is unclear, although excessive collagen deposition is a consistent feature.
